Heart Health Rules, So Get Up, Dear Single

Dear Single with Food Allergies in your life,

As we continue to self-quarantine, our Singles With Food Allergies’ online community becomes more and more important. During this challenging COVID-19 pandemic, we need to try to support one another emotionally as needed.

Your online Profile is both a means of maintaining your privacy and a means of showing what makes you unique. As you continue to reach out to other single Members for friendship or more, aren’t you building an invaluable support network and resource base? Now, do you find it easier to manage your shellfish allergy? your dairy allergy? your peanut allergy? a tree nut allergy? How are you doing truly? Have you improved your culinary skills? Adjusting to life with the restrictions of COVID 19 is quite challenging. Feel free to share any challenge that you think our community might help you to resolve.

SWFA Heart 6-20

Heart Health Rules” is this blog’s title, because we need to make sure that, amidst our determination to eat healthy, safe and balanced meals, we prioritize “self care”. If you’re spending more time in your home, you might learn how to cook better and how to prepare a wider variety of foods. Are you eating less? Or are you eating the same amount of food that you ate before March? The truth is that many of us, homebound Singles With Food Allergies’ Members, are simply not burning as many calories daily as we did before the quarantine. What about you? Remember that Heart Health Rules.

Nowadays, do you snack more, out of boredom? If Yes, you’re not alone. Many shellfish free, dairy free, peanut free or any allergen free, delicious, convenient, packaged snacks are available! Learn to say No! It may be time to replace your former, pre-pandemic snacks with new snacks with less calories. Have you tried plain popcorn, cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, assorted fruits or other options lately?

Do you have a home gym? If Yes, you’re quite fortunate, because a home gym makes exercise accessible during a pandemic. However, owning a stationary bicycle, for example, does not mean that the bicycle gets ridden often. Even if you have home gym equipment, you must make the commitment to use it.

Today’s “Healthy Heart Rules” blog is written for single adult Members without a home gym, since most of us do not have home gym equipment. If it is time to increase your exercise level, do you like to dance? If Yes, dancing is a heart healthy exercise that is often overlooked. Second, do you have a body? (Of course, you do. I posed that question with humor.) Indoor bodyweight training includes using our own weight to do simple exercises like squats and pushups. Talk with your physician to get approval and additional suggestions.

It’s June already. Popular outdoor activities for the summer that allow social distancing are hiking, jogging and bicycling. Walking at a moderate pace is exercise too and it helps to reduce stress (as long as you avoid crowded areas). If you live alone, don’t forget that your pet may be a potential indoor and outdoor exercise partner.

Feeling guilty about declining fitness? Did you exercise preCOVID-19, but lately have exercised much less as you’ve adapted to your more confined life style? We want to share a video that offers an easy start for an adult who needs to restart (or start) exercising slowly or who has a chronic illness, like asthma.

Have you found an exercise that you enjoy? If so, is it an exercise that you can safely continue, during this pandemic? If you haven’t found an exercise that works well for you, do it! Use online searching to guide you.

Remember that you are an extraordinary single. Your shellfish allergy, dairy allergy, peanut allergy, tree nut allergy or soy allergy doesn’t limit your attractiveness. However, just as you are most likely attracted to someone who tries to stay healthy, other Members should become more attracted to you once you demonstrate a commitment to improving your own self. Your goal should be daily exercise of course, which is likely doable during this quarantine period. Remember that a “Healthy Heart Rules”!

Wishing fitness success to you,

Matty
